The foundation's work mainly consists of collecting any naturopathic knowledge in the world and working it up editorially so that it can be published afterwards. Worldwide there are thousands upon thousands of people who die of side effects of medicinal products from the pharmaceutical industry. Figures are known and published again and again. Brand marks such as "Contergan", "Viox" or "Lipobay" were common talk all over and it is only a question of time when the next medicinal product will fall into disrepute. "No effect without side effect" is the creed of the pharmaceutical industry. All this is done in the name of "medical progress". They also call it "scientific". The keyword "scientific nature" has become the religion of our age and literally "beats up" the knowledge about health from thousands of years. "Contergan" with its active substance thalidomide was a sleeping pill and tranquillizer and on the market by the end of the fifties. On Sept. 30, 2004 Merck & Co. announced the batch recall of "Vioxx", and in August 2001 Bayer faced the first lawsuits regarding "Lipobay".
"Lipobay®/Baycol® was said to be one of the growth boosters of the pharmaceutical industry. Having been on the market since 1997 the anticholesterolemic has become a "blockbuster" in no time; at last the turnover forecast was - 2.5 billions a year. Worldwide approx. 6 million people were on the Bayer product. The decision of August 8, 2001 to take the product from the market therefore had extensive consequences for the whole group."
"Vioxx" had an unbelievable sales share of 20% in the total turnover of the Merck & Co. group.
There are more than fifty years of medical and scientific progress between "Contergan" and "Vioxx". Well, this is cynical, but what has really changed? Nevertheless, the pharmaceutical industry still has the nimbus of "scientific nature" and of "progress", and these medicinal products were marketed by those "researching pharmaceutical companies" that justify their high prices with their high costs for research and development before finally a new product can be marketed to become a "blockbuster".
On the other hand there are thousands of small companies worldwide that devoted themselves to naturopathy and endeavour hard to hold up high the banner of natural remedies, however, they are faced with permanent pressure to stop them from saying that the products from Mother Nature can "heal". Worldwide it is a criminal act to claim that natural active substances - mainly ones from the body - can heal. Vitamin C in form of ascorbic acid can be marketed in many countries only when it is filled as powder into a plastic container. If it is filled into capsules it is in many countries considered to be a medicinal product and hence needs a marketing authorization by law. That sounds unbelievable but it is true.
It is a law and one can be sentenced in case of violation. Naturopaths are being prosecuted - not because they cause harm - but because they violate laws that on the long term are intended to secure privileges for some people and some very big companies: The privilege to be right to control at their own discretion the health market, to create "blockbusters" and to explain to us that the chemical industry can heal our illnesses. Existing laws give them the right to disqualify the thousands of years old naturopathy as "unscientific".
